Ephemeral Balance
2023. Ink and Pigment Watercolor on Rice-Paper, 15" x 24"
Exploring the textures and strength of rocks by controlling the depth of ink, the composition layers three rocks: an inverted triangle-shaped boulder at the top, embodying power; a small, fragile rock in the center, gently balancing the heaviness above; and a solid base rock below, grounding the scene. These elements create a delicate tension of strength and vulnerability, reflecting the harmony I see in nature. Through the shifts in tonal value and texture, I aim to evoke a reflection upon balance in nature, especially the balanced beauty of resilience and fragility in life.
